"....for the benefit of the public, now and into the future."

Donated by Mien de Haas, who wrote: I got these items from my aunt, Anna, after the death of Queen Wilhelmina. My aunt worked for many years, as a dress attendant for Queen Emma and then, after her death, for Queen Wilhelmina.

What happened after the death of Queen Wilhelmina was never made clear. However, I was given some shawls and evening bags, as well as some chamois gloves that reached past one's elbow.

I was told that the gloves had belonged to Queen Emma. I believe they hd the maker's name of "Laimmbock", inside.

When I migrated to Australia, in 1981, I took all these items with me and in December, 2009, I gave them to Loes Kalf, with my consent that they are given to the Dutch Australian Cultural Centre for safe-keeping and to put on display for the benefit of the public, now and in the future.

Aunt Anna's first living quarters were in the Voorhout Palace, in The Hague. Later, when she attended to Queen Wilhelmina, she had a huge ensuite, on the first floor of the Apeldoorn Palace.

During the war, when Wilhelmina was in England, aunt Anna remained in the Netherlands and carried out various domestic tasks. After the war, Aunt Anna resumed her place in the emply of Queen Wilhelmina.

And now these items are in the care of the Dutch Australian Cultural Centre. Our thanks to Mien de Haas.
